From Circuit Boards to Corporate Circuitry: A Journey of Discovery and Evolution

Embarking from the tranquil coastal environs of Mangaluru, my trajectory from an engineering graduate to a global digital transformation consultant has been a profoundly formative expedition of growth, challenge, and self-discovery. Rooted in a natural affinity for logic and problem solving, I chose Electrical and Electronics Engineering at NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte, graduating in 2016. This decision was as pragmatic as it was inspired, driven by academic excellence and an enduring passion for deciphering the mechanics behind the world’s technology.

College life was a crucible of intellectual and personal development. Beyond rigorous study, my tenure as branch association president afforded me a unique vantage on leadership, teamwork, and organizing knowledge dissemination. Engaging in quizzes and debates honed my critical thinking, while the mentorship from my professors transcended academics, nurturing resilience and curiosity. Yet, growth was not merely academic. The collective experiences with peers, mentors, and a significant personal relationship fashioned a more grounded, empathetic self. Challenges such as heartbreak and health struggles interwove with moments of camaraderie, shaping a resilient outlook that prepared me for the uncertainties ahead.

Upon graduation, the career path diverged from my academic specialization in a way I had not fully anticipated. A role in IT, secured via campus placement, became my gateway into a domain where my analytical skills and creativity found fertile ground. This pivot was less a deviation and more a revelation: the latent potential within me met opportunity, and together they forged a new direction. Underlying this was a nascent sense that my possibilities extended beyond comfort zones; the journey had only just begun.

Training at Infosys in Mysore was a defining chapter. Immersed in Java and programming fundamentals, the initial separation from home morphed into an initiation into professional adulthood. This period was invaluable—a balance of challenge and enjoyment that sharpened my problem-solving acumen without succumbing to rote drudgery. A subsequent attempt at the UPSC examination, though unsuccessful, was no setback but a period of enlightenment that reaffirmed my resolve and gratitude for familial support. Professional pursuits then took me to Tokyo, where navigating cross-cultural teams reinforced the value of thinking globally while acting locally. This exposure broadened my horizons, melding technical expertise with invaluable cultural intelligence.

Integral to my evolution was an ongoing commitment to mindset and balance. I embrace the philosophy that work ceases to be a chore when fuelled by genuine love and curiosity. Continuous learning, adaptability, and staying true to one’s roots create a solid foundation for sustainable growth. Crucially, carving out moments for introspection—disconnecting to reconnect with the self—has been indispensable in managing stress and maintaining clarity. My journey affirms that the mind is a steadfast ally; with intentional prioritization and joy in the everyday, one can navigate even the most demanding professional landscapes.

Reflecting on this path, the deepest lessons crystallize around self-doubt, kindness, and legacy. Self-doubt, I’ve come to see, can be as perilous to one’s progress as a hidden iceberg to a ship—it can sink potential if unchecked. Yet, confronting it with self-compassion, realistic goal-setting, and a strong support network transforms it into a catalyst for growth. Practicing kindness consistently—starting with kindness to oneself—fosters resilience and strengthens communities around us. Life, I believe, is not a race but an ongoing practice, much like a farmer tending fields through droughts and monsoons alike. The true legacy we leave behind is not marked by titles or accolades but by kindness, smiles, and the lives we touch.

To young engineers and fresh graduates embarking on their own journeys, my advice is grounded in these principles: cultivate a career compass anchored in your values and strengths; seek environments that challenge and support your growth; value relationships for the perspectives, encouragement, and wisdom they offer. Embrace failures and detours, for these are often the unexpected teachers. Above all, nurture curiosity and guard your mental well-being, for these are the twin engines that drive meaningful progress.

Practice seeing every project as a living canvas for growth and connection. Engage deeply, listen intently, and lead with empathy. In doing so, you not only advance your expertise but also sow seeds for a career—and a life—that is enriched, balanced, and fulfilling.

Continuing on my own journey, be it the calm coasts of Mangaluru or the dynamic corridors of global consulting, I am reminded daily that the best version of oneself is perpetually a work in progress—an evolving blend of knowledge, kindness, and courage.
