REFLECTIONS: JOURNEYS BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

I grew up in the serene coastal region of Tulunadu — a place where life moved at its own calm pace, surrounded by greenery, culture, and community warmth. After completing my B.E. in Engineering from NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte in 2016, I had no idea how dramatically life was about to change.

My first big break came through campus placement at Accenture Solutions Pvt. Ltd., and soon I found myself packing my bags for Mumbai — India’s city of dreams. For a small-town boy stepping into the corporate world for the first time, it was both exciting and intimidating. The hustle of Mumbai, the energy of the workplace, and the sheer pace of life pushed me out of my comfort zone — and that’s exactly what helped me grow.

Those early days were full of firsts — first job, first project, first pay cheque, and first lessons in responsibility. Every day brought new challenges, but one thing remained constant: my desire to learn, contribute, and make a difference. Over time, Mumbai stopped feeling like a strange city and became my second home — a place that gifted me incredible mentors, supportive colleagues, and friendships for life.

After four wonderful years with Accenture, I took my next leap — joining Infosys Ltd., and then eventually SAP, where I’ve been working for over four and a half years now. Each phase of this journey — from college to global consulting — has shaped me in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

During college, teamwork taught me the joy of shared success — from winning the “Best Project of the Year” award to acing fun events like the Treasure Hunt. In my professional career, teamwork took on a deeper meaning. Working with diverse teams across countries and cultures taught me how to listen better, respect perspectives, and collaborate effectively. The relationships you build along the way often become your biggest strength — a network of people who inspire, guide, and challenge you to grow.

Of course, not every day is perfect. There are nights when deadlines stretch endlessly and mornings when you’re running on coffee and determination. But there are also moments of pride — when a project goes live, when a client appreciates your effort, or when you finally set that satisfying “out of office” reply and take a break.

If there’s one message I’d like to share with young professionals and aspiring engineers, it’s this:

"Your career is not a race; it’s a journey of balance, learning, and purpose.
Some days will test you, some will teach you — and both are equally important. Through it all, remember to prioritize your health and family. They are your real anchors."

I’ve also learned that asking for help isn’t a weakness — it’s wisdom. Whether from a senior or a junior, there’s always something to learn. One quote that has stayed with me (as a lifelong Harry Potter fan) is from Dumbledore:

“Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it.”

And I believe life works the same way — help, growth, and opportunity are always there for those who seek them.

From the peaceful shores of Tulunadu to the fast-paced corridors of SAP, it’s been a journey of discovery — not just of technology and business, but of myself. And if there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s this:

"Stay curious, stay grounded, and keep evolving — because the best version of you is still a work in progress."
